PROJECT SANCTUARY 2024

In May 2024, we are deploying a small filming team to Italy to record a unique story of bravery that happened in May 1944 near the towns of Castro dei Volsci and Pofi, in the Liri Valley.  This epic story will relate the brave actions of No. 5 Company of the Canadian Provost Corps (CProC), under the command of Captain Tony Scotti, who rescued Italian villagers (mostly mothers and daughters), from brutality by rogue soldiers of the French Expeditionary Corps (‘Goumiers’). To relate the story, we will meet a survivor of this event, 94 years old Olivetta Molinari, local historian Paolo Sbarbada, and many others.  The historical footage will be made into a one hour BIA Special Presentation documentary film. Tony Battista is the Executive Producer of the film. Paul Thobo-Carlsen is the Canadian Military Police Association (CMPA) Heritage Advisor to the production.

Also, on May 14th, at Castro dei Volsci Railway Station, we will record the unveiling ceremony of a commemorative plaque to honour Tony Scotti and his troops. This commemorative event is organized by the town of Castro dei Volsci. A large group of Canadians, local schools and population, and dignitaries will be in attendance.

In addition to the film, I will  create  a commemorative painting, that will immortalize the “Bravery in Arms” actions of those unsung Canadian heroes.

There are many expenses related to a Production of this kind, and we are calling on our family of Guardians of the Memory to help us raise the resources to make it happen.  You can do it by reading by Sponsoring Project, SANCTUARY and choose the LEVEL OF SPONSORSHIP. (see below)
